Start/Stop Service

To start or stop your service with Butler County REC, you will need to call or visit us at 521 N. Main, Allison, Iowa. 

Phone: 319.267.2726 or 888.267.2726.

Business hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

How to start your electrical service

When you are moving onto a property we serve or building a new property in our service territory, you must establish a membership account with us.

Be prepared to give the following information:

  • Date service should begin. Please ask the previous owner or occupant to contact us to verify this date and close their account.

  • Map location number or account number of service, if known

  • 911 address

  • Mailing address for billing

  • Additional names on the account

  • Social security numbers of all names on the account. This is needed for patronage distributions and identity theft protection known as the "Red Flags Rule"

  • Deposit to open the account. The amount will be based on highest one-month bill for the last 12 months of an active account.

How to stop your electrical service

To stop electrical service, whether a new occupant is moving onto your property or you no longer need electricity, you must contact us to close your account.

Be prepared to give the following information:

  • Date service should end. Please ask the new owner or occupant to contact us to verify this date and set up their account.

  • Map location number or account number of service

  • Your forwarding address and phone number. This will be used for patronage distributions.

Important note: If the new owner or occupant does not contact us within 48 hours of the stop service date, a service disconnection will be issued. Disconnection can result in reconnection fees and inconveniences for both parties.
